Ever wondered how an electric fence system works?

Electric Fences NZ deliver the right electric fence solution, electric fencing products and electric fence energizers direct to your door. For those of you who might be new to electric fences don’t be fooled into thinking they are cruel. An electric fence is based on a strong psychological barrier coupled with a weak physical barrier that keeps farm animals in and unwanted animals out. There is nothing new about using electricity to control animals. For over seventy years farmers have been using electric fences to control their livestock in New Zealand.

It’s pretty simple really an electric current, generated from an energiser which is earthed, travels along a fence wire as a pulse. The circuit between the fence and the ground is only completed when an animal touches the fence wire. As a result the animal receives a short, sharp but safe shock as the electricity passes through it.

This unpleasant experience provides enough of a deterrent to an animal not to repeat touching the fence again. This makes an electric fence a psychological barrier rather than a physical one.

There is nothing new about using electricity to control animals. For over seventy years farmers have been using electric fences to control their livestock in Europe and New Zealand.

There are many benefits to using electric fencing including:
